Program(s) affected: T1 Document created: 03 18, 2022
Tax year(s): 2021 Document last modified:
Version(s): 25.12, 25.13 Problem status: Fixed in v25.14

My client has an amount in box 30 of the T4E for an EI benefit repayment. This amount should be reported on line 23200 of the federal return, but a higher amount is reported on this line. Is this correct?

No. The amount reported on line 23200 of the federal return should be the amount reported in box 30 of the T4E. In some cases, a higher amount is reported on line 23200 of the federal return erroneously.

This situation may occur if all of the following conditions are met:

  • the individual has a spouse;
  • there is investment income from a T3 or T5 slip on file that is shared with his/her spouse using the keyword Own-%Share ;
  • there is a T4E with an amount in box 30 in the spouse's file.

As a workaround, enter each spouse's investment income in their respective file, instead of using the Own-%Share keyword to share the investment income.
